Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens
I am planning to go watch the new Star Wars movie with some of the guys after practice tomorrow (Tuesday). The showing we are going to watch is at 2:45pm at Celebration North and will probably go until 5:15pm. The movie is rated PG-13, if you would like to know why there is a parents guide on IMDB
After the movie I would be open to having the guys over to Evergreen Christian school (1630 Griggs St. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49506) to play some board games and have some pizza. I'm thinking Settler's of Catan, etc. I will plan on bringing my board game, if you have settler's or any other fun board game that you can bring, please do so! We would have the food before we start the board games.
Tomorrow's schedule:
Practice @ Ottawa Hills 11:00am-1:45pm
Star Wars @ Celebration North 2:45pm-5:15pm
Food @ Evergreen Christian School 6:15pm-6:30pm
Board games @ Evergreen Christian School 6:30pm-9:30pm
Please let me know if you need rides, etc. If you would like to help by providing some health conscious drinks for everyone, that would be great, pizza will already be provided! Please let me know at the beginning of practice if you are coming to the movie and/or the board game night so we can make sure we get everybody there, order pizza, etc.
Make sure you bring enough money for the movie, you might be able to get a discount with your student ID!

Almost there!
We have about 3 weeks and a half before our season begins. I just wanted to put out some reminders so that the little things aren't missed.
Physicals - Need to be turned into the office ASAP. Thank you to those that have already taken care of this.
I HAVE physicals for:
Nate Ames
Ben Bell
Alex Bergsma
Jake Boender
Owen Jackson
Trevor Nelson
Tim Randall
Sam Sajdak
Tim VanBeek
Jacob VandenHeuvel
Zach VanDinther
Christian Walldorff
Nick Weeber
Nick Woltjer
Shawn Yu
Recruiting - Please encourage those who do not have a winter sport to join the team, we don't have tryouts, but they are able to "try it out" if they want to, I just ask that they give it a week.
New2You - This year we have Friday's in December again (not on Christmas), If you are able to work 4:00pm-7:00pm any of the Fridays, please let me know ASAP. I will create a schedule and make sure we have at least 3 people each Friday. We are also looking into adding another month if this is a easy way for our team to make money, so that gear costs less, etc. All the money we make for the team goes directly right back into the team.

We could all go somewhere for lunch or order some pizzas if that's what we want to do.

Eagle's All-Sports Extravaganza (August 17 - 4:30pm-8:00pm)
Coming up soon is the All-Sports Extravaganza! If you haven't bought tickets yet, please order them soon.
All money raised goes directly to all of the sports programs at Grand Rapids Christian.
This is also a great opportunity for us to show off our team as it will also be freshmen orientation night and the freshmen will be able to come check out the extravaganza before their orientation begins. This a great time for us to show them what Grand Rapids Christian Swimming and Diving is all about.
We will also need volunteers to work the game that we will be assigned, I'm looking for 2 parents and 4 athletes to help out. It would be nice to always have someone to represent our team at our table as well.
The times needed are 4:30pm-6:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm
All parent and athlete volunteers who want to eat and/or play games must register and pay like everyone else. Don't forget all the money will go back directly to all of the athletic programs.
Please let me know ASAP if you are able to help me out!

Michigan's Adventure information
If you want to go, you need to contact Jeremy ASAP, as of right now, not many of you have decided yet. Please decide soon, so that we can make this work. I would really like for as many guys as possible to go to these outings, but I understand if you do not enjoy this type of outing.
Tickets are $32 for Michigan's adventures and If we get pizza afterward, it'll cost around $8 a person.
We would leave from the high school in the morning in around 9:30pm. We would bring a cooler with a sack lunch that you would bring along so we can have a cheap lunch and avoid paying a lot in the park for little food. We would leave the park around the time the water park closes at 7:00pm and head over the Bernie o's for some of their nationally ranked pizza. We can choose to eat there or bring it out to the beach.
We would get back to school between 9:00pm-10:00pm
If you have any questions, please let me know
Please get your answer to Jeremy right away, thanks!

Michigan's Adventure next Wednesday (July 22)
I'm thinking of having a team outing to Michigan's Adventure next Wednesday, July 22. This outing would be open to incoming 9th grader swimmers and divers also. If you are interested, please let me know ASAP. I will be ordering tickets by the end of this week.
The adventure park is open 11:00am-9:00pm that day and the water park is open 12:00pm-7:00pm.
The plan would be to leave school and car pool out to the park. I don't know if we would stay until 9:00pm, but could stop at Bernie O's Pizza for dinner, they close at 9:00pm.
Please email, text, call ASAP!

Joe Bell
Trevor Nelson
Tim Randall
Zach VanDinther
Christian Walldorff

Taper Reminder
Please remember that if you are tapering for conference that you are not going out to use up energy on these two off days from school. It is also very important that you don't put yourself in a position where you can become injured.
Please be mindful of what you do for this last little bit of the season, so that you put yourself in the best position to finish strong.

Conference Taper Announcement
Taper- Throughout the season the body's muscles are broken down and rebuilt during practices and meets. Once we start tapering, we swim less yards and allow our muscles to rebuild and become prepared for the most important part of the season.
Guys that are tapering for conference over the next two weeks should be trying to do these things in order to make their taper more effective:
1. Rest - Try not to put stress on your body (doing physical activities, etc.)
2. Eat properly - stay away from fatty junk foods
- Good snacks: unsalted nuts, rice cakes, multi-grain wheat thins, peanut butter, popcorn (no butter/salt), tostitos + salsa, and fruit.
- Good meals: fish, skinless chicken, vegetables, pasta or rice
3. Drink water - Keep drinking lots of water throughout the day
4. Sleep - make sure that you are getting 7-9 hours
5. Mentally prepare yourself - Visualize your races before you go to sleep at night,
- start with your warm-up for your event
- waiting behind the blocks
- the starting official asking you to step up, take your mark and the buzzer going off
- think about your what you have to do in your event, think about any stroke errors that you have and visualize yourself correcting them during your race.
- finish strong, look up to the scoreboard and see the goal that you have set

Hair Bleaching
Today the team will be bleaching their hair after school (this is optional for everyone). The guys continue this fun tradition for a couple different reasons, first it is a form of comradery and also it shows schoolmates, family, etc that they are a part of the team. It also is done because by now most of the hair they have has been affected by the chlorine and won't be normal again until it is grown out (this is also why we do fun haircuts and shave it off before conference.
Most of the team does it each year, there might be a few that don't and that is 100% okay.
